The CARE Research Group trains the next generation of environmental-health researchers to work at the intersection of epidemiology, climate science, and computational modeling. Mentoring is central to what we do — we run biweekly lab meetings, weekly one-on-one check-ins, a shared writing hour, and attend holistically to students' development, wellbeing, and long-term goals.
Doctoral applicants apply through the graduate programs at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at UC San Diego. If our research resonates with you, email Dr. Heaney with your CV, a short note about your research interests, and how they connect to the group's work on climate, environment, and health.
We welcome inquiries from postdoctoral candidates with backgrounds in epidemiology, environmental health, climate or dust science, statistics, or a related quantitative field. Reach out with your CV and a brief description of your interests and funding situation.
UC San Diego students interested in research experience — including thesis, capstone, or independent-study projects — are encouraged to get in touch. Past undergraduate mentees have gone on to MPH programs at UCLA and USC.
